About Me

Welcome!

My name is Latoya Murry. My passion for massage began at a very early age. As a young girl, I enjoyed working with my hands a lot. At the age of 13, I would massage the sore shoulders, backs, and hands of my family and friends. I received many compliments, words of encouragement, and recommendations to pursue massage as my future career.  While in high school,  I was very active in sports, so stretching and maintain loose muscles was something continually stressed to us student athletes.  Track and Field was my favorite sport, and I was no stranger to stretching and maintaining loose muscles as it was critically important in performance.  Before every sporting event, I would stretch with my fellow teammates, and provide massages in between my free time off of the track. Although I did not know much about technique at the time, I did what felt natural to me. To see the relief on my fellow teammates faces after a massage, made me feel good knowing that I could be of service to them. My team mates like it so much that I became the designated "go to" person for massage on the team. I used to chuckle about it, but deep down it made me feel pretty good.

After graduating from high school, I decided to look further into pursuing a dual major in college. Electrical Engineering being the first major, and Massage Therapy being the second. I felt that these two fields would allow me to do what heart desired, which is working with my hands. After doing some research on a few schools with massage programs, I came across a community college that met my needs, however the waiting list for the program was 2 years long.  I thought to myself, " wait it out for 2 years, or continue pursuing my engineering degree and maybe it will come back around later." I made the decision to complete my engineering degree and if Massage Therapy was destined for me, it will come again when the time is right.

After firmly planting my feet in my engineering career, I still felt as if my journey was not complete. I have always had a heart for helping people, and providing a service to them was something that I was determined to do. I would sit and ponder if I became a professional massager (what I used to call it in my youth years), I could heal people's pain, or at least make them feel a little better. I pondered on this for quite some time; so much so that I held back a whole year and contemplated on whether my already crazy schedule would allow me to pursue the journey. As the fear of possible failure was beginning to consume me, I made the decision to finally take the leap. I filled out the online information for massage therapy at Orion Institute, and received a call as soon as i clicked the submit button. Completely taken by surprise on the immediate response , I panicked and shed a few tears all in the same moment. That day was one of the best days of my life, as the time had finally come to pursue my heart's true desire.
